Semax
ACTH 4-10 analogue
Also: Heptapeptide
Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro
§ Overview
A synthetic analogue of ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) fragment 4-10, developed in Russia and approved there as a nootropic drug. Semax enhances memory, attention, and cognitive function without hormonal side effects. It's been used clinically for stroke recovery and cognitive impairment.
§ Mechanism
Increases BDNF and NGF expression, modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic neurotransmission, enhances neuronal survival and plasticity. Unlike full ACTH, Semax lacks steroidogenic activity — it only retains the nootropic/neuroprotective fragment.
